Qld: Democrats condemn ALP over work for dole
BRISBANE, April 1 AAP - Labor's criticism of "mutual obligation" extensions was hypocritical
given the party's support for work for the dole, the Australian Democrats said today.
Democrats' welfare spokesman Senator Andrew Bartlett said the ALP had voted for work
for the dole as well as backing changes allowing the scheme to be extended without parliamentary
scrutiny.
"Work for the dole is the greatest imposition of mutual obligation principles in the
welfare system and Labor gave the Government a clear run to extend it as far as they want
without it coming back before the Parliament," he said.
"Labor's record shows their willingness to go along with the Government's agenda of
raising the hurdles for welfare recipients."
