Fed: Govt set to end electoral bleeding on petrol

CANBERRA, Feb 27 AAP - The federal government appears set to end weeks of electoral
bleeding by moving on rising petrol prices.

Prime Minister John Howard, after opening the door to a government change of heart
last week, is expected to announce proposals to quell voter anger over high fuel costs.

This follows continuing strong pressure on the government which, until Mr Howard's
comments last week, has steadfastly refused to act.

Labor leader Kim Beazley said the government was set to follow the Opposition's lead.
