NSW: No trace of bandits in Grace Bros: Police
Police have found no trace of a gang of armed bandits involved in a botched robbery
in a Sydney department store this morning.
Police searched the Grace Bros building in Bondi Junction extensively for two hours
but called it off shortly before 11.30am (AEDT).
A police spokesman says staff are now being allowed back into the store to assess what
was taken during the drama that began at 6.10am (AEDT).
The group of four to five men wearing balaclavas and armed with knives, iron bars and
possibly guns, broke into the building on Oxford Street through the rooftop carpark.
Three cleaners and two security guards were working in the building at the time of the raid.
One man broke his leg and two others sustained minor injuries during the siege.
Hundreds of shoppers attending end of season sales have been affected by the drama
that involved more than 50 police officers, including members of the elite State Protection
Group.
Sections of Oxford and Gray Streets are still closed to the public.
