WA: Woman dead after crashing car into a tree south of Perth

A woman's been killed and an eight-year-old girl seriously injured in a car crash south of Perth.

Police say The 56-year-old and the girl .. believed to be her granddaughter .. were
travelling near Lake Clifton this morning when their car left the road and smashed into
a tree.

Emergency crews spent several hours working to free them from the wreckage.

The girl's been taken to Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital .. where she remains in a serious
but stable condition.

The woman .. from Manjimup in the state's south west .. was freed soon after .. but
has since died in hospital.



The death brings Western Australia's road toll this year to 193.
