Fed: Terror experts says it's safe to fly in Aust

A security expert says Australia has a world class airline security system .. and it's
safe to fly.

NEIL FERGUS .. former director of intelligence for the Sydney 2000 Olympics .. says
the terror plot uncovered in the United Kingdom has all the hallmarks of al-Qaeda.

He says there are well established al-Qaeda cells and support networks in the UK ..

but there's no parallel with Australia.

Mr FERGUS has told the Nine Network .. Qantas has put extra precautions in place at
Australian airports .. and the federal government's committed over 600 million dollars
of extra funding since the Wheeler review late last year.

He says there IS a heightened risk on flights to and from the UK .. but there's no
indication the security risk rating in Australia should have changed.
