Qld: Five remain in hospital following fatal Fraser Island smash

BRISBANE, April 24 AAP - Five tourists remain in hospital as police continue to investigate
a crash on Fraser Island which killed two of their touring companions.

A four-wheel drive carrying 11 backpackers rolled at Dundaburra on Saturday morning
when the driver tried to avoid a wave.

A 22-year-old British man and 26-year-old Italian woman died.

Two British men aged 20 and 21, a British woman, 22, a Swiss man, 29 and Norwegian
woman, 19, remain in a Brisbane hospital.

Four men and a woman, from Germany, Britain and Norway have been released from hospital.

The crash led to a pledge by Premier Anna Bligh to lower the current 80km/h speed limit
and look at driver training regarding hire vehicles.

Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
